Carols Down the Line 2008

Last evening saw Colin and I take friends from Thurlestone to Buckfastliegh for the annual Carols Down the Line. As many are enthusiasts of old buses we took the 1951 Bristol LWL ECW B39R 1613 LTA 772 for the journey.

I opted to be the conductor in the fridge (saloon) whilst Colin drove from the freezer (the cab) ! Despite the usual cold of a really freezing evening and a low tech Clayton heater all thoroughly enjoyed themselves !

CAROLS DOWN THE LINE' 09/10 and 11 December 2008

The event is an annual one which takes place on the South Devon Railway when money is raised for NCH (the Children's Charity) and also for a World Vision project amongst others. On each of the three nights we meet at Buckfastleigh Station at 7.00pm to sing Carols then the train (steam hauled of course) departs at 7.30pm. Coffee/tea and hot mince pies are served as we travel down to Totnes where we get off the train sing more Carols to a brass band accompaniment then back on the train to go to Staverton Station where again we get off and sing more Carols before travelling back to Buckfastleigh (singing Carols on the train) arriving at about 10.00pm.

No compression on the images as the light entailed some "tweaking" of the ISO (usually 800 or 1600) plus a fixed fast lens (Sigma 30mm f1.4. I used a monopod but the camera had problems with finding a focus point !

Here we set off as dusk falls. " 'twas dimpsy when we left !"

About me

Retired and still active in a couple of hobbies that have kept me going for 55 years ! Photography, particularly buses and coaches kept me occupied as the main interest. It lasted until 2004 when my wife died and I decided to spend the family "silver". That led me into actually preserving buses and the fleet currently stands at 12 !
